Lookin' for Zombies

I think I've mentioned here before my interest in all things zombie.  I don't have a good explanation why the whole zombie scene interests me.  I think it originates from my love of Stephen King's The Stand and how people would survive and rebuild after some type of catastrophic event.  Or it could be just because zombie makeup is really cool.  Either or.

I think I might have also mentioned before that they film the AMC tv show The Walking Dead in the next town over from us.  I've been on the lookout for zombies and hot actors since this show started filming here.  There have been plenty of tv shows and movies filmed in this town like Fried Green Tomatoes, I'll Fly Away, Drop Dead Diva, Andersonville and the latest Footloose.  So this little Georgia town, Senoia, is an old pro at making movies and shows.  For The Walking Dead, they have allowed the production company to take over the town and I wanted to get some pictures of what they've done.

They are currently filming season 3 and so on this amazingly hot summer day - 104 degrees to be exact, my cousin Crispy and I set out lookin' for zombies.

They've turned Senoia into Woodbury for the new season.  These are some buildings on the main street that they've changed the signs on and created businesses for the show.  The windows are all blacked out so we couldn't see the sets inside.

This is a fake business sign that was put in the window of a local restaurant called The Redneck Gourmet.  Yes, that is really the name of it and it is a really good place to eat.  Try the fried pickles.

Some of the shops have gotten into the zombie spirit as well.

This was a tshirt that I saw that I really fell in love with.  I had to take a picture of it.

As you can see if you look really close, there is a sign pinned to the shirt saying "No pictures please - copyrighted design".  Guess what I never noticed until I got home and uploaded my pictures?  The sign that said "No pictures please".  So to make amends for this faux pas of mine I have decided to go back to the shop and buy one.  It's only right.

Here's the visitor center of Senoia, I mean Woodbury.

Still no zombies.  I think zombies melt in this kinda heat.

In fact, it wasn't just zombies that the heat had driven out.  The Senoia Buggy Museum (yes, I said it) had this sign on their door.

Smart move, I say.

We walked right by this building and then I stopped and said "Hey Crispy, has this always been here?"  Crispy was melting and so her memory was faltering too but we were pretty sure that this building had not been there the last time she was there either.

So I tried to take a picture of it and lifted up my iPhone and this is what I saw on the screen.

Yeah, my phone overheated in the 104 degree heat.  It was telling me it was sick of zombie huntin' and it wanted some air conditioning.  But we had backup!  Crispy whipped out her phone and took some pictures.

It looks real, doesn't it?  I mean like a real building.  When you drive around behind it, this is what you see.

It's hard to see from this shot, but the facade of the building is only a few feet wide.

On our way out of town we almost missed this spot.  It looks like any other storage yard around here until you start looking at the buses.  One side of each bus has sheets of tin attached to it.  I'm not sure exactly why but it is some type of movie magic, I'm sure.

Like the finger in those shots there?  My phone was so hot, it was hard to hold it on the sides.  Sorry.

So that's what we've found so far on our zombie hunt.  No hot actors though.  Just hot.  That's it.  We'll keep searching and hoping to stumble upon one of those crazy zombies.
