Remember my last post where I posted about us up-doing/refreshing our home? I posted a few colors that we were going back and forth on. One color I did not post about was this
Pantone's Color of the Year for 2014 - Radiant Orchid.
I picked this to be our "pop color". Pillows, frames, rugs, stuff like that.
Then Hubz made the remark "I guarantee if you would paint that on a wall, you would absolutely hate it".
Oh yeah?
Yep I went from a pillow to a breakfast nook in 12.4 seconds.
He hates it.
I like it.
This is the smallest area of actual wall space in the house so hopefully it won't be too overwhelming. Hopefully he won't freak out too much.
Besides, he hardly ever eats in there anyways. But he did offer to do all the painting around the trim since I'm not so good at coloring inside the lines.
I don't think I'm allowed to pick out any more colors though.

Entryway Revamp
Last weekend I started sanding down our entry way floor.
It's a hardwood that I've never really liked. The color was way too honeyish and light for me. I have toyed with the idea of painting it for a long time. I want to paint and stencil it. This is my inspiration.
Hubz doesn't like that color though. I love it. It feels warm to me. This is why we never get anything done in our home. We cannot agree on any colors, styles, patterns. I'm amazed we picked each other!

After spending some time googling and pinteresting, we both agree that we like greys, blues, and greens.
Decorchick wrote about her home paint colors recently and when I showed it to Hubz, he liked them (almost all of them) as well.
I also checked out both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore for their latest colors.
Sherwin Williams' color of the year is Exclusive Plum
and Benjamin Moore's is Breath of Fresh Air.
Both of those work for the Hubz too. Whew.
He said out of all of those, it is now up to me. Great.
Now that I have the power to make the final decision, I have choked. I haven't done so well in the past making paint selections. We're still living with a Pepto Bismol pink office. I get a headache whenever I go in there.
It's been narrowed down to a dark grey with white stenciling or maybe something like this

Using more colors will give more decorating options.
I really like these colors.
Any thoughts or suggestions on these would be greatly appreciated. As soon as I get my paint and my stencil I will get to work!

Craptastical
Today was Seuss Day at Bean's school to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. (Happy Birthday!)
They let the kids come dressed as their favorite Seuss character.
What's the first thing you do when you need to make your kid a costume? Spend hours on Pinterest trying to figure out what to make.
I will say that this time I actually tried to get out of the whole costume making situation. I called Party City to see if they had any left over ones from Halloween. The very nice man on the phone ruined my day by saying they were all sold out. What the crap, Party City? Don't you know the only reason you are in business any other month besides October is to save a mom from having to make a costume? Y'all need to rethink your business structure is all I'm saying.
Anyhoo...since I was stuck and had to make our own, back to Pinterest I went. Pinterest should have a new service of finding someone to make all the crap you pin for you. (I just became a millionaire right there with that idea. I need to call Pinterest!)
Anyhoo...x2...I drug Bean to four stores trying to find something to use for a costume. I had hoped she go for my idea of using the book Ten Apples Up On Top so I could just hot glue some dang plastic apples to a headband and be done with it. Bean, evidently, is not into taking the easy way out.
She wanted to be Thing 1. Possibly Thing 2. She was undecided.
We found a red shirt and some fabric paint. Great. Costume done!
"No Mommy, I need blue hair."
"Give it a few years, kid."
"Mommy, the Things have blue hair." Back to Pinterest.
Okay, I can make a yarn wig. Seems easy enough. I found some really cool Electric Blue yarn and but then could not find a tobagggon/tobaggen/ tobbagen/a hat. I couldn't find a hat. I called Hubz and he didn't think he had one that would fit. The ones we have at home that Bean wears are pink and too damned cute to be covered up with ugly blue yarn. Duh!
Do y'all know how hard it is to find a winter hat in Georgia in March? Ummmhmmm. Hubz told me I could probably find one at a convenience store but I'm sorry, I'm might be from the South, I might be slightly redneckish, but I am not buying articles of clothing in a gas station. Not doing it.
So I found this felt cap thingie in Michael's and thought to myself..."this is the next big thing on Pinterest right here!" I was so proud of myself. Really, y'all. I thought I had found my chance to be a Pinterest darling with everyone in the world repinning my creation.
I wished I would have taken a picture of this said felt thingie before I attached the yarn but I was in such a hurry to get it done that I forgot. (That's not something Pinterest darlings do.)
But it looked like this

except beige, shaped like a head and ugly. It actually looked like a felt yarmalele or whatever it is that the Jewish folk wear.
Only (other) problem was that you can't poke a crochet needle (not that I had one anyways) through it to attach the yarn. That's okay cause I got a hot glue gun and that thing will attach anything to anything.
Oh, yeah, there was (at least) one other problem. Bean fell asleep before I got to put this felt thingie on her head to measure it all.
Measurements! Ha! Who needs them? (Pinterest darlings do.)
So I cut the yarn and made my little hair bundles. I glued those suckers on and my part of the project was done. It looked cute...to me...kinda like a really ugly baby looks to its loving mother. Whatevs.
Once Hubz got home I told him his part of the costume was waiting for him on the kitchen table. Hubz has a secret. He is crafty. No matter what he might have said in the past to deny it, he has talent. He can draw and paint. I'm not jealous of that talent. Not really. Not too much anyways. What bothers me the most is why aren't we using this talent to allow me to live in the lifestyle I'd like to become accustomed to? I don't get it.
Hubz sat down and got to work. I showed him a picture of the Thing 1 logo.

He freehand painted this on Bean's tshirt. I stood watching. Not hating.
So here are our completed projects.
Here is Hubz' hand painted tshirt.
Here is my beautiful blue yarn wig.
What?
Why are you laughing?
It's beautiful! Stop laughing.
Okay, okay. It looks like a pile of blue hairy poo. I get it.
I really just toned down my crafty wonderfulness so that I could give Hubz a chance to shine.
I did! Really! Stop laughing.
There was a(nother) problem though. This morning when I tried to put the wig on Bean, it sat only on the top crown of her head. The bangs stopped at the TOP of her head. It looked like she had a big blue hairy pile of poo on top of her head. I gave in and tried to rip off the yarn and re-hot-glue it to the top of one of the really cute hats that fit Bean.
This yarn wasn't coming off that yarmalele. I cut away the parts of the felt that weren't attached and pinned it to the top of one of her hats. Still looked like a hairy pile of poo but she was a little happier with it. Then I hear "Daddy should have made it".
Crushed I tell you! Crushed!
I'd love to share a picture of Little Miss Craft Critic with you but by this time the school bus was rolling down our road and I still had on my sock monkey PJs. I haven't completely Wal-Marted myself out yet so wouldn't walk her down to the street in my PJs. I watched from the front door as this little electric blue poo head ran to the bus.

Cookie Overload
![]() |
| HoneyBooBoo Eats Girl Scout Cookies so you should too. |
First let me say that if you are our troop leader, stop reading this now. Your shit list is the last one I need to be on...again. I want to preface this post by saying that I am in love with the Girl Scouts despite any catty viewpoint expressed herein. I am proud that my daughter is one and I hope that she chooses to stay with GS as she grows. There are so many wonderful opportunities to take advantage of and so many memories to make. My following comments are made in jest of a GS tradition that we are acclimating ourselves into and of course, I must add in my two sarcastic cents during the process.
Having said that - it's that time of year again. Time to offer up your kid for any available free moment to hock cookies to America.
This being our first year in Girl Scouts, it's our first do-si-do with selling cookies and the dreaded Cookie Booth. Cookie Booths are the bane of existence for any girl scout parent from February to March each year. "Can you cover this?" "Can you be there?" "People need their cookies!"
I thought with Bean being so young and all that she might be eased into the Cookie Booth process but I was totally, 100% wrong. We were even offered a 7 hour shift since we can only do weekend booths. Uh huh. That ain't happening. I thought at the time that I would be lucky and pushing it getting Bean to stay engaged for two hours and I as right.
She fared well for the first hour in the chilly morning wind gale but as that second hour started ticking on, I could see the curtain of "I'm over this crap" come down. I had to beg to get her to wave at passing motorists. It would have helped to warm her up. She wasn't buying it. She probably would have benefitted from a cookie.
My boss shared that he read an article stating the majority of cookies are sold by moms of Girl Scouts instead of actual Girl Scouts. I'm not sure if that is correct or not but it was true that second hour of cookie booth for us.
I'd love to give props to the Girl Scout and/or her parental unit that came up with the idea of setting up a booth right outside a medical marijuana facility. That girl deserves a special badge for that entrepreneurial foresight. Wished I had come up with myself.
By the time the second shift of the day rolled around, Bean was just not feeling it. We were setup to man a booth outside a farming specialty shop for three hours and I was so dreading it. I knew Bean was already at her limit and these three hours would be like trying to get blood from a stone but we had given our word. Once we arrived though there was a mixup with the assigned times and another troop was there. Now not only was the actual Girl Scout over cookies, cookie booths, badges, all that, but so was her mother. I didn't care if I ever saw another Thin Mint again or heard the words Girl Scouts. I just wanted to run back to the car and peel out of there on two wheels with our Daisy vest sailing off in the wind.
But you know what happened?
The power of community and comraderie within Girl Scouts came out and renewed our love and passion for all things scouting. (Except for actually camping out. She's on her own with that one.)
The other troop that was there were two older girls and their moms. These two girls had been active in Girl Scouts since they were Bean's age and they welcomed her to their booth and set about teaching her the ropes. They were probably two of the nicest young ladies I've met in a long time and proved my theory that all teenage girls are possessed to be completely false. I will state right now that if Bean grows up to be as nice and kind as these two girls, I will be over the moon proud.
The moms welcomed me into the fold as well. They told me all about their girls who are now best friends, about the awards they had won, the trips they had earned and the friends they had made. They could not say a single negative thing about the organization and left the impression that they had gained so much by their daughters being part of it all.
This is what I had forgotten in the hullabaloo of cookie season.
This is what I want Bean to find out for herself.
So despite my grumblings and petty comments, cookie season has given us one thing. That's the reminder that when you enter into the world of Girl Scouts, you are entering not just an activity for your child to spend some down time. You are opening up doors to friendships and opportunities that far outweigh any badge earned. Thank you to Vicki and Dee Dee and your beautiful daughters for reminding us of that and for the hour spent getting to know you all. Bean told everyone about her time in the Cookie Box.

Contemplating Home DIY projects
Back in January, we had a pipe burst that caused our front room to flood. We have been on the search for weeks and weeks to find new flooring for this room. Usually when Hubz and I go out looking for ideas, it turns into something similar to this.
| Talk to the hand cause I hate that floor! |
A while back and I do mean AWHILE we bought some hardwood laminate that we were going to put down in our living room, entryway and hallway with plans to later on also put it in this front room. The flooring is still in the boxes and now they have discontinued that color so we cannot buy more.
which is nice and elegant AND $600.
Now we are looking at finding flooring for all of the rooms and the two of us cannot agree on much. We had been given the idea of tiling the entryway and finding laminate for the front room and living room. That's a great idea but we hate each other's choices on tile. I want something like this
| Very elegant. |
and he wants something like this
That ain't happenin'!
We currently have a real hardwood floor that is glued down directly to the slab in the entryway only but it is a color of wood that I don't like. Another problem is that we do not have enough money to do laminate in all these rooms or a mix of tile and laminate from our insurance proceeds and we don't have the extra in the budget to come out of pocket right now.
I am trying to come up with ideas of what to do with the current hardwood in the entryway. I really like the idea of sanding and painting it but am not sure if the Other Half will like it. I need to do it before we install the laminate because if I wait until after and we don't like it, it could damage the laminate if we try and take up this section later on.
I just have no experience painting a hardwood floor. Most say it's horrible to paint over wood but if it's a wood you don't like, why not? Here are some ideas I've found so far that I like.
Have you ever painted a hardwood floor? Would you or do you think that's sacrilege?
